Myth: Kava Is Some New Trend

Not even close. Kava comes from the root of Piper methysticum, a member of the pepper family cultivated across the South Pacific — Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga, Samoa, Hawaii, and beyond. Island communities have prepared and shared it for thousands of years as a centerpiece of ceremony, hospitality, and everyday social life. The kava bars popping up across the U.S. are the newest chapter of a very old story.

Myth: All Kava Is the Same

Kava comes in many cultivars and preparations — different islands grow different varieties, and you'll find it as fresh root, dried and ground root, powders, and pre-made drinks. Quality varies with the grower and the source, which is why reputable bars and vendors care about where their root comes from and how it's tested. Myth: A Kava Bar Is Just Like a Regular Bar

A kava bar keeps the best parts of bar culture — the counter, the regulars, the long conversations — and skips the alcohol entirely. Everything we pour is alcohol-free, which also means zero hangover. The volume tends to be lower, the pace slower, and the point is the company, not the countdown to last call.

Myth: Kava Tastes Bad
